The Baptismal Covenant

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By what gate do we enter the kingdom of God on earth? (2 Ne 31:18)

"And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father and the Son; and ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the father and the son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive."

Baptism is the gate by which we enter the kingdom of God on earth. I bear testimony that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is, was and ever will be the kingdom of God on earth.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who has the key to the gate to the Kingdom of Heaven? (Isa 22:22-24.)

"And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and none shall open.

"And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.

"And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, and to all the vessels of flagons."

I bear testimony that the Kingdom of Heaven is that Celestial home we are all striving to reach. That Christ is our advocate with the Father and holds the key to that Kingdom and has power to admit or exclude anyone from the Fathers presence.

Under what two conditions did the Lord open the door to these people? (Rev 3:7-8)

"...These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

"I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name."

Formula:

C + A = Open Door

C = 'hast kept my word'

A = 'hast not denied my name'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What two conditions was the gate opened for the land of Judah? (Isa 26:2-3)

"Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

Formula:

C + B = Open Gate

C = 'keepeth the truth'

B = 'who's mind is stayed on thee'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What three things do we promise when we renew our baptismal Covenants? (Moroni 4:3)

"O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it; that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him, and keep his commandments which he hath given them, that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen."

Formula:

A + B + C = What? Is not baptism and repentance the gate by which we enter the Kingdom of God on earth?

A = 'willing to take upon them the name of thy Son'

B = 'and always remember him'

C = 'and keep his commandments which he hath given them'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What did Christ do to open this Gate/Door to us? (2 Ne 9:19-22)

"O the greatness of the mercy of our God, the Holy One of Israel! For he delivereth his saints from that awful monster the devil, and death, and hell, and the lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.

"O how great the holiness of our God! For he knoweth all things, and there is not anything save he knows it.

"And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; For behold, he suffereth the pains of all men; yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.

"And he suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day."

Jacob, the brother of Nephi, invites us to come to the Lord, resist temptation, and enter the joy of our God. (2 Ne 41 & 45)

"O then, my beloved brethren, come unto the Lord, the Holy One. Remember that his paths are righteous. Behold, the way for man is narrow, but it lieth in a straight couse before him, and the keeper of the gate is the Holy One of Israel; and he employeth no servant there and there is none other way save it be by the gate; for he cannot be deceived, for the Lord God is his name.

"O, my beloved brethren, turn away from your sins; shake off the chains of him that would bind you fast; come unto that God who is the rock of your salvation."

And the Lord gives a promise to those who believe on his name and come unto him. (D&C 45:3-5)

"Listen to him who is the advocate with the Father, who is pleading your cause before him--

"Saying: Father, behold the sufferings and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of thy Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified;

"Wherefore, Father, spare these my brethren that believe on my name, that they may come unto me and have everlasting life."

I bear testimony that the same gospel that was taught by Joseph Smith and all the General Authorities of the Church since his time, is the same gospel that was had and taught by Isaiah, John the Revelator, Jacob, Nephi, and Moroni. The Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's Church, and He is at the head of it.
